First case of Ebola recorded in New York.

A US doctor based in New York who recently returned from treating Ebola patients in Guinea has become the first person in the city to test positive for Ebola. 33 year old Dr. Craig Allen Spencer (pictured above) had been working with Doctors Without Borders in Guinea, and returned to NYC on October 17th. He tested positive to the virus the Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan New York yesterday October 23rd.

He and three other people he had contact with in recent days, including his girlfriend have been placed in isolation at the Bellevue hospital. He's officially the 4th person to test positive on American soil.

Many are alarmed at this new case due to the population of the city but the New York mayor while confirming the recent case said New Yorkers have nothing to fear
"We want to state at the outset, there is no reason for New Yorkers to be alarmed. Ebola is a very hard disease to contract." Mayor Bill de Blasio said

Baby born in Ibadan with holy Qur’an.

For those who believe in things like this...Nigerian Tribune is reporting that a baby was born recently in Oyo state clutching a pocket-size Qur’an (pictured above).

The baby, who has since been named Ismail, was born in a church at the Oniyanrin area of Ibadan in September, the reports states. A renowned Islamic preacher who the newspaper spoke with said the woman who delivered the baby threw away the object she found in the baby's hand thinking it was something devilish, only for them to later find out it was a pocket-size Qur’an which contained all the 114 chapters in the holy book. It was wrapped in a thread. The preacher said although the Qur’an was small, the lettering inside was readable.

The child's parent who were not practicing any faith prior to the birth of Ismail, now say they will revert to Islam as this was a sign directly from Allah.

They also said since the news broke, their residence have become a mecca or sort as Ibadan people troop there to have a glimpse of the little boy.

High rate of unemployed pilots in Nigeria - an article From a Nigerian pilot.

A Nigerian pilot writes about the high rate of unemployment for pilots in Nigeria. Read below...
Achieving the dream of becoming a pilot is a very long and frustrating path to follow, it takes pure will and  determination  to earn a commercial pilot license. The very moment you make up your mind about joining possibly the most exhilarating career on the planet, the struggle begins which includes raising the funds for your flight training which frankly isn't a joke. On average a pilot spends nothing less than N10million on flight training.

The funds needed to see a pilot through flight school is nothing compared to the stress and mental concentration needed to attain a commercial pilot license.

One would expect that after all the struggles of of getting a commercial pilot license, the will always be job openings to crown the efforts of the ever growing number of pilots fresh out of flight schools. Sadly this is not the case, as a matter of fact there are over 200 unemployed pilots presently in nigeria with some pilotsbeing out of jobs for over 3 years.

This number is constantly rising as there are more Nigerians finishing from flight schools all over the world on a daily basis to return home and join the saturated market of unemployed pilots. This is a sad situation because some pilots had to take loans from relatives and in some cases banks just to achieve there dreams, which right now is a nightmare.

The depression and frustration of unemployed pilots in Nigeria is being fueled by the high amount of expatriates pilots working in Nigeria while Nigerians are lavishing at home with no jobs. It's really sad that the airlines in Nigeria prefer hiring this expatriates pilots when in their countries you can't get the same job if you are not a citizen or permanent residence in most cases.

Job creation is a fundamental responsibility of the government in power, that being said the Nigerian government has been siting idle about the issue of unemployed pilots in Nigeria hence allowing it to escalate to this stage.  The government cant force private aircraft owners to employ any of the unemployed, but government can support the airlines in this country through subsidized operational costs, government bail-out to airlines struggling in debt, passed laws that favors Nigerian citizens than expatriates and ultimately create a NATIONAL CARRIER, which is the foremost cause of the problem. It's a shame that the most populous country in Africa is without a national carrier.

The reasons giving by airlines why the don't hire pilots straight out of flight school is that they are inexperienced and without type rating, then again how can pilots get this experience when they are not hired. General aviation is really not practiced in Nigeria which is another way young inexperienced pilot can build flight hours which is the proof of your experience by flying smaller planes for banner towing, sight seeing, pipelines inspections, tourism, skydiving, aerial photography and flight instructing.

The future is uncertain for so many pilots in this great country and a drastic change is needed urgently.

Police parade dogs attacked 4-year-old boy in Lagos.

Meet the dogs that viciously attacked 4 year old Omonigho Abraham inside his compound in the Igando area of Lagos state on September 25th (read story here).

The Lagos State Police Command paraded the two German shepherd dogs yesterday at its headquarters in Ikeja, Punch reports. According to the police, the dogs were paraded "so that the public would be convinced that they were still in police custody, and had not been released as was being rumoured." Really? Continue...

Speaking about it, the Commissioner of Police, Cornelius Aderanti, said;
"We have brought the dogs out so that the public would know that they are still in police custody. They have been examined and they show no negative trait. It is only the court that will decide what happens to them. The police cannot decide to kill the dogs.”
Am I the only one who finds this weird? Anyway, the little victim, Omo, had asked that the dogs be killed but the police say it's up to the courts. Meanwhile the owner of the dogs, Stanley Wesley, was arrested and arraigned in court for negligence but has since been granted bail.

Man chopped into pieces at railway crossing line in Ibadan.

Nigerian man arrested after jumping White House fence.

A Nigerian man living in Maryland, Dominic Adesanya, (pictured above) has been arrested after jumping the White House Fence. According to police reports, around 7.15pm yesterday Wednesday October 22nd, Adesanya, 23, climbed the fence on the North Lawn of the building and got about 20 yards past the fence before he was taken down by Secret Service and dogs.

He's currently in police custody but is being treated in a hospital for injuries he sustained during the encounter. He was attacked by K.9 dogs. The White House was on a lock-down for about two hours after Adesanya jumped the fence. President Obama was said to be in the White House at the time of the incident. Police also said Adesanya was not armed...but he's still in big trouble.

According to his Facebook profile, he attended Stevenson University for business administration and management and Hartford Community College for an associate of science, along with partially business administration and management.

His father spoke with ABC 2 and said Adesanya had been arrested at the White House before and that the family had tried to get him help.

His jump comes weeks after a similar incident happened, prompting the resignation of the director of Secret Service, Julia Pierson on October 1st. In September, a 42 year old man named Omar Gonzalez also jumped the fence and got in the East room before he was arrested. Guess there will be more copycats. The Secret Service need to pay more attention.

Some of the dogs also had to be treated after Adesanya kicked them.
